Etched beneath image: JOHN AND BENJAMIN GREEN, ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS 1838' / 'The Arches of this Viaduct 120 feet span each, consist of three Ribs formed of Deals with Timber framing above. The Piers and Abutments are of Stone – The Total length is 1050 feet and the height up the Railway 82 feet.' London Published by T. McLean, 26, Haymarket & F. Loraine, Grey St Newcastle upon Tyne. A. Ducote's lithogy St Martins Lane London 'T.M.Richardson Senr. del. & Lithog'. Willington Dene Viaduct came into operation on 18th June 1839 with the opening of the Newcastle and North Shields Railway.
