The portrait statue is sited in a pedimented niche above the entrance to the old Theatre Royal. Shakespeare is shown standing with his right arm resting on a pile of books and his left hand pointing downwards. The statue is believed to be a poor copy of the statue by Peter Scheemakers designed by William Kent in Westminster Abbey.
