in raised lettering on a metal label affixed to the front of the shaft: LEST WE / FORGET; and etched into a slate pavior in front of the cross: WHEN YOU GO HOME / TELL THEM OF US / AND SAY / "FOR YOUR TOMORROW, / WE GAVE OUR TODAY."
