The memorial is formed of a sculpture of Christ on the Cross with a uniformed soldier lying wounded or dead on rocky ground at Christ's feet. The soldier's helmet has fallen off and his face is turned up towards that of Christ. The group is mounted on a base and surrounded by wrought iron railings with gilt painted tips. The memorial is almost identical to another war memorial by Alberti, Lupton and Co., located in Darwen, except that the soldier's right arm is folded across his chest rather than lying to his side.
