With her hands gently cradling him, she gazes downward as he turns and lifts his head upward. The Virgin is depicted with long, brown hair partially covered by a blue cloak, a ribbon across the top of her brow has a jewelled clasp; she wears a red gown with a golden undergarment visible at the cuffs. The child is fair haired and is partially covered with a little white drapery. The background is gold in colour with dark speckling.
