Provost Adam Glegg's house stood on the High Street in front of the Star Inn and next door to it on the south side of the old line of the highway there stood a ruinous property with a 'lauchter stead' at the back of the house, which is now the opening known as the 'New Wynd'. This property belonged to Provost David Skinner of Cononsyth, who sold it to Provost James Coutts for the Town Council, to be used for the express purpose of an opening to the Common or Links.
