2006 marked the anniversary of Royal Tunbridge Wells and the 150th anniversary of the Victoria Cross. To commemorate the two anniversaries, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council commissioned Andrew Motion to write a poem, and artist Charles Gurrey to create a memorial sculpture. Extracts from the poem, 'Remembrance', feature on the sculpture. The ten names of the Victoria Cross recipients are: Lionel Ernest Queripel, William Hew Clark-Kennedy, Eric Stuart Dougall, William Robert Fountains Addison, Douglas Walter Belcher, John Duncan Grant, William Temple, Matthew Charles Dixon, Charles Davis Lucas and John Henry Cound Brunt.
