Thomas Dundas (1795–1873) was the 2nd Earl of Zetland and Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England, 1844–1870. The family estate was at Aske, Yorkshire, where Dundas was MP for Yorkshire from 1830 to 1834. William Edge seems to have been an intermediary employed by Wedgwood to copy or adapt a bust by Thomas Earle, and this explains the presence of his surname on the back of the bust.
