29th December 1539. Abbot Blake, the last abbot of the Augustinian Abbey of St Mary, is seated at the table about to sign the deed of surrender, while Henry VIII’s Commissioners gather around them the valuable plate and silver from the abbey. William Philippes, holding a book, was appointed vicar of the parish church following the dissolution of the monastery. To the left, William Warbot stands holding a key to the cellars.
