Occupying the central panel of the Town Hall mural, this female figure represents the town. Dressed in blue, the colour of the flax flower, with the town crest on her chest, she holds a distaff. The figure was modeled by Kathleen, a daughter of Newbery’s friend and Bridport mayor, E. S. Reynolds. In the background, East Cliff at West Bay and a China tea clipper, possibly the 'Thermopylae' or the 'Mary Hounsell' are depicted. Together the four pictures are illustrative of sailcloth weaving, twine spinning, yarn bleaching and net braiding. The panels are placed at the end of the Town Hall, two in the alcove above the dais and two in the spandrels immediately outside the alcove and over the archways. Newbery worked on the mural panels during 1924 and the mural was unveiled at the Town Hall in September 1925.
