After the portrait by James Ramsay of Irish politician, Henry Grattan (1746-1820). Seated with right leg crossed over left, right arm resting on the arm of the chair, left hand resting on two pages of correspondence on a table to the right with inkwell and quill. A seal rests in his lap. Wears a dark velvet jacket, buttoned up, with cravat and wearing knee breeches and stockings. Short, white-grey hair without a wig. Looks out over the right shoulder of the spectator. A curtain behind with tassel hanging to the right and fluted pilaster.
