The painting shows the 'Noah's Ark Inn' from the north-east before alterations. 'The Noah's Ark' on Crabbery Street was originally built as a town house in the sixteenth century. In August 1575 Queen Elizabeth I took wine here during her journey through the town. In the late 1800s the building was altered when the road was widened. This involved removing a timber-framed porch and the three-gable room above. The building was converted into offices in 1967, but is now a bar.
