A watercolour on paper of the New Walk. This watercolour is a copy of the famous eighteenth century print of ‘The New Walk’ at York Art Gallery. Figures parade in colourful costume on the river-side walk which had been newly laid out in 1730 (hence the ‘new’). Through the tall trees is a panorama of the River Ouse and the city: Ouse Bridge and St William’s Chapel on the left, the Minster central and the Debtors’ Prison on the right.
