on an adjacent information board: THIS STATUE IS A PERMANENT REMINDER FROM BILLERICAY TO COMMEMORATE / THE MILENNIUM. IT PROVIDES A VISION OF HOPE FOR THE FURTURE / CELEBRATING THE CHILD, THE IMPORTANCE OF LIFE-LONG LEARNING / AND THE CARE OF OUR ENVIRONMENT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. AROUND THE CHILDS NECK IS A PENDANT WITH A SEAGULL WHICH INDICATES FLIGHT AND FREEDOM, THE TWO KEYS SUGGEST THAT THEY CHILD CAN UNLOCK BOTH THE FUTURE OF OUR PLANET AND ITS OWN LIFE. TO COMPLEMENT THE STATUE BASILDON DISTRICT COUNCIL PARKS AND COUNTRYSIDE HAVE CREATED "THE GARDEN OF THE CHILD" THE GARDEN IS / DESIGNED TO GIVE COLOUR AND INTEREST THROUGHOUT THE YEAR / WITH FLOWERS AND PLANTS PROVIDING FOOD AND COVER FOR WILDLIFE AS WELL AS DIFFERENT SCENTS AND TEXTURES.
