A figure of a small child crouching down surrounded by creatures and plants on a plinth. The sculpture was stolen in February 2017, it was later found in a wheelbarrow, restored, and resited in November 2017. The creatures include a beetle, butterfly, dormouse, frog, hedgehog, newt, shrew, snail, spider, stoat, toad, vole, weasel, and wren.

IT PROVIDES A VISION OF HOPE FOR THE FURTURE / CELEBRATING THE CHILD, THE IMPORTANCE OF LIFE-LONG LEARNING / AND THE CARE OF OUR ENVIRONMENT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. AROUND THE CHILDS NECK IS A PENDANT WITH A SEAGULL WHICH INDICATES FLIGHT AND FREEDOM, THE TWO KEYS SUGGEST THAT THEY CHILD CAN UNLOCK BOTH THE FUTURE OF OUR PLANET AND ITS OWN LIFE. TO COMPLEMENT THE STATUE BASILDON DISTRICT COUNCIL PARKS AND COUNTRYSIDE HAVE CREATED "THE GARDEN OF THE CHILD" THE GARDEN IS / DESIGNED TO GIVE COLOUR AND INTEREST THROUGHOUT THE YEAR / WITH FLOWERS AND PLANTS PROVIDING FOOD AND COVER FOR WILDLIFE AS WELL AS DIFFERENT SCENTS AND TEXTURES.
