Arguably one of the pivotal events in modern European history, the Battle of Waterloo on 18th June 1815 was not only the dawn of a new, albeit slow to form, united Europe, it did at least put a stop to the uncertainty and conflict that had beset the continent for many decades during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. Many of those who fought that day and in the years leading up to it would eventually end their days amongst comrades at the Royal Hospital and become known as 'Waterloo Men'.
