This sculpture represents Tamesis (the Latin name of the River Thames) facing forward. Along with the companion relief of Isis, this is probably the original cast for the decorative keystones of Henley Bridge, exhibited by Anne Damer at the Royal Academy in 1785 (catalogue no. 591 and 592).
