Simon Luttichuijs was born and brought up in London where he worked for some years. He moved back to his father's native Holland and in 1655, as a widower, he married Johanna Coks who was English. Unlike his brother Isaac, who painted portraits as well as still life, Simon mostly concentrated on the latter and perfected a style of quiet elegance.
