After leaving the army in 1946, Scott was made Senior Painting Master at the Bath Academy of Art, at Corsham Court in Wiltshire. On friendly terms with many of the artists of the St Ives group, his own painting was concerned mainly with the theme of still life. He selected elements of the genre – such as the frying pan or bottle – and elegantly spaced them in a floating line across a flat picture surface, creating formal relationships that move from figuration, but never fully abandon it.
