Folding fan, the sticks carved, painted and gilded with classical urns, floral motifs and several characters associated with the Comedia dell Arte, such as Harlequin. The leaf is painted with the piazza san Marco showing scenes characteristic of the last days of Carnival with groups of figures sporting traditional masked costumes and enjoying some of the entertainments offered during Party season. On the far right, a group of men form a human pyramid in a game known as 'La Forza d'Ercole' or 'Hercules Labours', the slightest figure surmounting the formation and waving a white flag as a marker of success. At the opposite side of the square, a woman moves toward the entrance of a curious box-shaped contraption on stilts – probably a camera obscura.
