A broad landscape of open fields, under snow. In the centre foreground, standing on a track trodden through the snow, is a donkey. On either side of it are scrubland and thistles. The track winds away uphill again. A horse and cart with a single rider descend the hill, followed by a man and a dog. In the left background, is a row of houses; in the centre is a picket fence on the open ground. In the distance are flat fields and fences, with scattered trees. A cloudy black sky occupies the whole of the top half of the picture, and in the distance, the sun sets.
