Sendall was a colonial governor. He was Governor-in-Chief of the Windward Islands from 1885 to 1889 and Barbados from 1889 to 1892, then High Commissioner of Cyprus from 1892 to 1898 and British Guiana from 1898 to 1901. In 1902 he represented the West Indian colonies, Bermuda, and the Falkland Islands at the coronation of Edward VII, receiving the Coronation Medal.
