Dr Drury practised in Bromsgrove. He was Professor of General Practice at the University of Birmingham from 1980 to 1991. An award has been established in the name of Michael Drury, to recognise contributions from College staff based in the faculties or devolved Councils. The award is given in promoting the objectives and values of the College and is presented at the College’s Spring General Meeting.

He is shown three-quarter length, standing, wearing Presidential robes and chain of office. In the background is an original Chagall print, given to Sir Michael by his artist daughter. Family and friends of Professor Drury thought the portrait made him look more serious than usual. A suggestion to the artist that he should be depicted smiling, was squashed by the comment that one laughing cavalier was quite enough.
