Dr Haslam practised in Ramsey, Huntingdon, Cambridge. He was President of the British Medical Association from 2011 to 2012. Haslam was the last President linked with the College’s former headquarters in Prince’s Gate, Kensington. The setting with the pillars in the Long Room (used for Council meetings) was deliberately chosen to be a reminder of the building. The name of his first grandchild (Rosie) born during the sittings is secreted into this portrait. He became Chair of NICE in 2013.

Haslam is shown three-quarter length behind lectern covered by cloth with the College (English) Coat of Arms. He wears the Presidential gown and a chain with a pendant.
