Known as the ‘Review Close’, the former premises of the Montrose Review, it has passed through various titles – originally being Erskines Close from the home of Sir Alexander Erskine of Dun. The house was approached by an original and well-designed handmade rail, part of which gradually disappeared. Although Alexander Erskine lived in this close, the bulk of his active life was spent in the interest of James VII and Charles I taking part in political and state enterprises.
