Egyptologist and linguist. Gardiner entered Queen's in 1897, gained a DLitt in 1910, was a Reader in Egyptology at Manchester University, 1912–1914, a Research Professor at Chicago University, 1924–1934 and Honorary Fellow at Queen's in 1935. This work is copied from a photograph dated 1938, a copy of which is at the National Portrait Gallery.
