Michael Warren began painting full-time in 1972, after working as an interior designer. He studied illustration at Wolverhampton College of Art. He has developed his art in conjunction with active bird watching as all his paintings are derived from field observations. He says ‘the continual interaction with the subject leads to a constant stream of ideas and experiences to form into paintings’. Here he observed these sanderlings at Gibraltar Point, which were joined by a small party of snow buntings and then some red-throated divers flew in and landed just offshore. 'The painting records three species witnessed together and is not contrived as it might appear.' Warren has been an elected member of the Society of Wildlife Artists for over 30 years and is an active participant in Artist for Nature Foundation international projects.
