This wooden sculpture is based on a legend that Saint Nicholas brought three murdered children back to life. They had been killed during a period of famine by their innkeeper father, so he could feed them to his guests. The legend states that Saint Nicholas made the sign of the cross over the tub where they were salted and they miraculously stood up.
