One of a pair of paintings of the twin brothers Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian, both physicians. Each saint wears academic dress and stands in a landscape. This one was described as Saint Damian when acquired by Wellcome: he faces towards the viewer's right, and holds a lily and an ointment box in his left hand and a spatula in his right hand. Formerly part of the furnishings of a pharmacy in Granada: 'Bótica de la compañia del Doctor Pontes', where they were overdoors between one room and another.
