The charity, Glasgow Integrated Community Empowerment, was started in 2009 and offers support to people who have newly arrived in Glasgow. It aims to be a truly multi-cultural service and to date, the organisation has established positive relationships with Sri Lankan, Indian, Pakistani, Afghani, African, Irish and local communities. The board felt that they had been welcomed to Glasgow and wanted to give something back to the city and a bust representing Scotland’s National Bard and internationalist Robert Burns was suggested and agreed. The sculptor, Perumal Nallaratnam, who is from Sri Lanka, but now lived in India, was commissioned with the task of creating the bust which was presented to the city in 2013. David Nallaratnam, Chairman of GICE said, 'I have always had a very positive experience in Glasgow which has been my home for a long time now.
