This is a sitting portrait of Professor Anthony Robards, OBE, painted in the Great Hall and the Merchant Adventurers' Hall.

He is painted wearing a pinstripe suit and a Company tie. Over the suit he is wearing the Governor's red robes and the Governor's jewel. The paintings in the background are of Queen Henrietta Maria (see YORMA 158) and Henry Thompson, MP (see YORMA 160).

Professor Robards was Governor to the Company of Merchant Adventurers from 2008–2009, and was awarded an OBE in 2002 for Services to Higher Education arising from his work to link the University of York with the local business community.
