One of a series of images created following a residency in the University of St Andrews Library Photographic Collection. The artist recycled, re-appropriated and manipulated historical images to create new ones. Writing about this image (based on a photograph of D'Arcy Thompson), Gardner says: 'The eyes of D'Arcy Thompson on this photographs are, for me, its punctum, that detail which touches me, but also pierces me, and makes the image special. His eyes proliferate and grow. He is, literally, crying his eyes out: his tears are eyes, and evoke what Derrida tells us about the real function of human eyes which is not to see, but to cry.'
