plaque one: PETER WRIGHT (1934 - 2012). Voted Colchester United's Player of the Century. 427 appearances and 90 goals (1951 - 1964).; plaque two: ON THIS SITE Football was played 1907 - 2008. This was the home of Colchester United FC from its birth in 1937 until 26th April 2008.; plaque three: THIS MEMORIAL Provided by Abbey Developments Ltd, Colchester Borough Council and other generous benefactors, was unveiled by Lindsey Wright and Sir Bob Russell MP on 5th February 2015.; plaque four: THIS PLACE Is in memory of those supporters whose ashes were scattered on the Layer Road pitch. "Sit and remember them, for they are still amongst us".
