The memorial depicts a woman carrying a baby beside an open circle, a pile of coal streaming from her back. She stands on an inscribed block which is part of a larger integrated base. In front of her, at her feet, is a group of three houses with mine winding gear etched above them. To her side, below the inscribed block that she stands on, is a miner lying on his right side in a narrow seam, facing away, his pick under his head. On the rear of the base is etched a group of people walking to the right. The sculpture stands on a rectangular stone plinth.
