This First World War memorial commemorates the miners of Newbiggin Colliery who were killed or missing in the conflict. Five hundred and seventy-five Newbiggin Colliery Miners went to war and 92 did not return. A Doric granite column is mounted on square pedestal with a circular stepped base and set in the centre of a large circular platform. A concrete seat with panelled parapet encloses three-quarters of circumference and there is a bronze tablet on front of the pedestal.
