This portrait depicts a member of the Morel family, as seen in the mid-Victorian period. The Morels were the former owners of Morel Farm in La Rue de la Fontaine, St Lawrence, a property donated to the National Trust for Jersey in 1939.

The site, which is entered through a mid seventeenth-century archway, consists of a farmhouse and a range of outbuildings clustered around a cobbled courtyard. The chimney stack of the main house carries a date stone for 1716.
