A pre-Columbian era figure wearing a robe of feathers or plants and holding two branches. It possibly represents a fertility god, though the purpose or origins of the sculpture are not clear. An old museum label reads: ‘Mexico Maya art – a figure of Maya Priest’, while an old museum list suggests the sculpture is a ‘Peruvian Vase (Maya) God of Fertility’. A later curatorial note states: ‘certainly visual features are not Maya and the God of Fertility is Maya not Peruvian’, and suggests the sculpture is from the Tiahuanaco culture.
