'Machine Gun and Figure' by Carol Bove (b.1971) consists of two parts. A piece of horizontal driftwood mounted on a steel stand evokes a machine gun; placed slightly behind is a figure consisting of two driftwood pieces arranged vertically. The organic materials show how a simple adjustment can alter the way an object is seen. Bove is known for her assemblages that combine found and made elements to reveal narratives in the material.
