He rests his arms on four books, two of which are inscribed on the spine: 'WRIGHT'S TRAVELS' and 'KENNETS ANTIQUES/TIES'. A bust of Diana and the scroll of a cello or viola da gamba are visible in the background. He wears a white cravat and blue velvet suit, with white ruffs at the cuff. He is looking to his right, with his head half turned to the left. The background is a deep velvet red and has a painted oval frame in dark ochre.
