Jane Nasmyth was the eldest daughter of Alexander Nasmyth. Jane, along with at least three of her sisters and two of her brothers, was a well-known Scottish artist working in oils and watercolour. Her depiction of Loch Ness with Dochfour House is topographical in approach yet still evokes the picturesque and romantic landscape tradition of the Victorian era.
