Lieutenant John Daniel wears yellow facings, silver lace and wings. His shoulder belt plate is clearly marked ‘86’ for the 86th Regiment of Foot. John Daniel was promoted lieutenant in 1794 and retired from the army at that rank in 1803.

This work is mounted in a gold frame with a suspension loop. The reverse is set with a glazed oval holding four sections of hair woven together in a diamond pattern, overlaid with gold cut out initials ‘JD’.
