This large abstract painting is a combination of controlled and organic mark-making. The crisp red border on the sides and top contrasts with the blue and green of the inner area, and the soft, dry brushed edge of the blue at the top of the piece is in direct contrast with the dripping quality of the green paint at the bottom of the piece. These areas are separated approximately one third of the way down with a sharply defined purple band that runs from side to side. The dripping quality of the green paint complements the free-hand red and purple organic shapes that sit on top of it. The use of complementary colours in various layers of controlled and loose shapes makes the whole image seem to move or jump around under scrutiny.
