The artist's description: 'Job Waddell presumably owned this building which once stood at the eastern end of the bridge over the South Esk. The boathouse still stood in 1864 as it is marked on the Boulton map of that year, but it had disappeared by the time the Ordnance Survey map was produced in 1903. To its east we can make out the pier and the busy wet dock (now infilled) with the masts of the sailing ships.'
