The sculpture commemorates the Bury St Edmunds-born cyclist who won the world’s first road race 150 years before, on his velocipede. The 1869 race was from Paris to Rouen, a distance of 130km. James Moore was one of the first stars of cycling and went on to dominate the sport for many years. The three-layered sculpture consists of a twisted wrought iron railing-type design, that reveals the image of a cyclist as you move around it.
