'The forming of these figures is inspired by medical imaging of the human body. The colours of these pieces are chosen for their semblance to the stains used in microscopy. The particular structures of interest include; cellular tessellation seen in skin, growth patterns in bone and lungs, and protein structures seen in blood cells. As a sculptor I am always interested in how things are formed and it is through contemplation of the structures of the interior of the body that these figurative works have been conceived.' – Joseph Hillier
