Richard Caink’s sculpture frames the picturesque view along the Irwell Valley. The sculpture refers to traditional landscape paintings of the eighteenth & nineteenth centuries, often used to display land ownership. The carvings along the footpath relate to the local industry and in particular the loom-wreckers rebellion of 1826 at Chatterton Mill, where three people were shot after protests about the introduction of a powered loom. The work collapsed or was demolished between April and July 2019. On 1st April 2019 this piece was intact but the wood was deteriorating. By July 2019 it had either collapsed spontaneously or had been demolished due to imminent collapse.
