Evans was a man of great charm and unfailing kindness. The nurses at the London Hospital where he spent most of his career referred to him affectionately as Horace.
This portrait was produced by Joyce Aris after a copy of the original by Sir James Gunn which is in the London Hospital. It received warm approval from the sitter’s daughter as it captured a good likeness of her father.
