A self-taught artist, Alan McPherson is represented by three paintings from early in his painting career in the Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery collection. They all share a deliberately naïve quality in the presentation of everyday objects or figures, and in the heightened sense of colour. Since then his work has become more abstract and his current work is concerned with colour and the mark-making process, with references to the landscape experience. McPherson exhibited at Bangor in 1968, shortly after graduating with a degree in philosophy from the University. He then taught part-time and contributed reviews for ‘Artscribe’ and other fine art publications. He worked as a freelance graphic designer, photographer and video producer, and has curated exhibitions.
