This is a group portrait of two thirds of the members of the Company of Merchant Adventurers, depicted in the great hall of the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall. In the right foreground stands a group of officers, distinguished by their robes. Darrell Buttery, Governor from 2002–2003 is on the left, next to the Archbishop of York. The figure on the far right is Squadron Leader Michael Dudgeon, Master of the Mercers’ Company in 2003. The Senior Warden, Adrian Horsley, is shown in his purple robe to the left of the picture, and the Junior Warden, Nicholas McMahon Turner, to the right of centre. The scene depicted never took place. Each Member of the Company had their photograph taken and the artist then placed individuals into the portrait.
The names of all those present are given in the key that accompanies the portrait.
