plaque: GODSPEED V / JONATHAN CLARKE / This cast Aluminium sculpture was created as a vision of hope and / speaks of pilgrimage and journey. By coincidence ‘Godspeed’ was / also the name of the ship Bartholomew Gosnold, one of the / earliest explorers of New England set sail in 1606. Gosnold / worshipped at this church and named Martha’s vineyard after his / daughter who was baptized and buried here. / This sculpture was acquired with the generous help of the Jerusalem Trust / and a bequest from the late Mrs. Ena Alice Bensley
