Gaea the Greek earth mother protected by her helmet enfolds a father mother and two children within her cloak. The boy is playing with a ball while his sister holds his arm. The mother is seen from behind her long flowing hair echoed in the daughter's. The group was commissioned to mark the entrance to the newly built Sentinel House for Norwich Union. Although the sculpture can be seen from all sides the major viewpoint is for staff and clients entering the building up the steps from the city end of Surrey Street. This serves to reinforce Gaea's message of protection through insurance with the Norwich Union.
